An employee at a Waffle House in Stockbridge was shot by a customer during the early hours of Monday, authorities said. The altercation escalated to violence around 6:30 a.m., when the employee sustained an injury to the arm, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Following the incident at the establishment on Highway 138, the victim was transported to hospital for medical attention, as Atlanta News First states. The shooter fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, and at this time, the police have not released, any suspect details.
It was noted that the Waffle House where the shooting took place is off North Henry Boulevard. Stockbridge police have taken up the case, conducting a search for the assailant though no arrests have been made public yet.
In the past year, Waffle House employees across Georgia and other states have protested multiple times, calling for higher wages and improved conditions for workplace safety. The striking workers also held rallies in an effort to bring attention to their cause, suggesting a pattern of concern for safety that predates this recent shooting incident.
