A high-speed chase led by the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station deputy ended in a multi-vehicle crash and the arrest of a suspected DUI driver in San Diego on January 10th.

After spotting a black Ford 150 truck speeding and driving erratically just after 10 p.m., the deputy attempted to pull over the driver who was believed to be under the influence. Ignoring the deputy's signals, the suspect, identified as Samuel Laguna, led officers on a chase across surface streets and onto the eastbound 52 freeway, flouting numerous traffic laws.

The pursuit came to a halt at Convoy Street and Balboa Avenue when Laguna's truck crashed into several vehicles. Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene to assess the condition of the multiple adult occupants involved. Two individuals, sustaining minor injuries, were transported to a hospital, while the rest were tended to at the scene, escaping major harm.

Arrested at the scene, Laguna now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol with injury, driving under the influence while on DUI probation, and felony evading. Following an evaluation at the hospital, officials saw that he was booked into jail. Sergeant Scott Faiferlick of the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station has stated for any further inquiries.

Whilst San Diego Police handle the traffic collision investigation, the Sheriff's Deputies will oversee the criminal aspects of the incident. Laguna, born December 24, 1992, will soon face the legal repercussions of the alleged offenses. The collision, pursuit, and subsequent arrest underscore the ongoing risks posed by driving under the influence.
