Richmond/San Rafael Bridge will see lane closures on both Eastbound and Westbound Interstate 580 starting January 5th as Caltrans crews get down to business fixing a significant pothole damage, according to an announcement. The eastbound direction near Pier 21 will specifically to be hit with closures on Friday, Jan. 5, and Saturday, Jan. 6 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning, causing potential traffic snarls.

The construction doesn't stop there. Starting Monday, Jan. 8 through Thursday, Jan. 11, two left lanes on Eastbound I-580 will also bid farewell to drivers from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night. If you're heading westbound, the right lane will similarly be off-limits, as Caltrans aims to keep the bridge's structural integrity in check. And for those who cycle, the bridge's bike lane will be shut during these construction hours, though Caltrans isn't leaving you to pedal nowhere: a bike shuttle service is stepping in to aid your commute.

Caltrans advises motorists to prepare for some delays and make use of the signage in the area to navigate the disruption. "Changeable message signs in the area will be activated to assist motorists," ensuring no driver is caught off guard by the lane closures.
