A dark shadow has spread over the seemingly peaceful Hillside Estates community in Jamul following a gruesome incident that led to the death of 77-year-old Vicki Bodle. Initially arrested for attempted murder, Vicki's son, Travis Bodle, now faces upgraded charges after his mother succumbed to the injuries she sustained in an assault at their home.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene on January 19 after Fire Department personnel, treating the victim for alarming signs of physical assault, requested assistance. The San Diego Sheriff's Department reported that Vicki Bodle was found in her home suffering from life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital due to trauma to the head and neck.
Travis, the 53-year-old son, was present when authorities arrived, found alone, as reported by the Hoodline, and has since been taken into custody. He is being held at the San Diego Central Jail, with the preliminary charge now updated to Penal Code 187(a), murder, following the death of his mother.
The investigation carried out by the Sheriff's Homicide detectives is still in progress, and they have not yet divulged a motive or circumstances leading up to the assault. The Sheriff's Department urges anyone with information to come forward and aid the ongoing investigation.
