In a massive crackdown on drug trafficking, the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) Vice Unit conducted its largest methamphetamine seizure in over two decades, netting over 15 kilos of the narcotic. As reported by KXAN, the Vice Unit, working off a tip about large-scale drug operations, launched an investigation into Juan Jose Cardenas-Flores back in August.
Detectives managed to quickly develop, and then act upon, sufficient information tying Cardenas-Flores to an ongoing robbery case. In collaboration with the Austin Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, an arrest and search warrant was executed on Oct. 5, in which approximately 15.5 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized, along with an array of firearms.

The drugs apprehended were confirmed to be 87% pure and tested positive for the lethal additive fentanyl, as per the details obtained from CBS Austin.
On Dec. 19, a federal grand jury indicted Cardenas-Flores on charges of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. The TCSO Vice Unit has called the bust its largest seizure of methamphetamine to effectively combat, in over 20 years, the reach of drugs within the community.
