Boise-based WinCo Foods Inc. is on the move again, bringing its 24-hour grocery format to Goodyear's Pebble Creek Marketplace with a spacious new store in the works. Buckling down at an 85,675-square-foot layout — it's eighth Arizona haunt — the popular chain is setting the stage for a late 2024 grand opening, per an announcement by the city of Goodyear. Goodyear's hungry for more options and WinCo aims to deliver, promising a variety of organic, gluten-free, and natural goodies packed within its trademark "wall of values".

Feeding the retail surge at 15581 W. McDowell Road, the forthcoming WinCo will rub shoulders with local staples like Potato Barn and Panera Bread. The chain locked down approximately 10 acres in the 50-acre commercial hub back in 2014 for $3.1 million, according to a report by the Phoenix Business Journal. This is the company's first march into the Valley in almost a decade and could generate 175 to 200 jobs for the Goodyear folks.

Greg Goins, WinCo’s vice president of real estate, enunciated the excitement: “WinCo Foods is thrilled to finally be breaking ground in Goodyear,” he said in a statement obtained by ABC15. “Soon, the city will have a new WinCo and everything that comes with it — high-quality groceries, the absolute lowest possible prices, and employee owners from the Goodyear community.”

Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo can't hide his pride either. "Goodyear residents have been asking for WinCo Foods, and we are excited to let them know they have been heard," he enthused. Recognition came from the surveys demanding the retailer's presence, with expectations soaring for a surge in commerce tied to the new downtown and city center plans. WinCo ranked among Phoenix's top 10 grocery brands for market share in 2022, bragging local sales worth $400.7 million according to the Business Journal's 2023 report.
