Bookworms in Washington County have reason to brave the winter chill as the local library system rolls out its Winter Reads Program, featuring an array of Minnesotan authors ready to dish on their latest works.

According to an announcement by the county, the lineup kicks off with Patrice Johnson at the Hardwood Creek Library in Forest Lake at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20. Johnson, known for "Land of 10,000 Plates," will not just share recipes but the tales behind Minnesota’s rich food traditions. The event promises a peek into the state's culinary diversity through the eyes of a local foodie.

The literary engagement continues with Emma Törzs at Oakdale Library at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5. Minneapolis-based writer, teacher, and translator, Törzs will unpack her debut novel "Ink Blood Sister Scribe," dipping into themes of familial discord and fidelity. The book's acclaim includes being selected for the Good Morning America Book Club, stirring intrigue among local readers.

Completing the trifecta of narrators, Lou Raguse is set to take the stage at Wildwood Library at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 12. An award-winning journalist with KARE 11 TV, Raguse will delve into his first foray into true crime literature with "Vanished in Vermillion: The Real Story of South Dakota's Most Infamous Cold Case," released to the public in 2023.

Amidst page-turning and chapter-end cliffhangers, participants can submit book reviews as part of the Winter Reads initiative, with a cozy hat up for grabs for the first review. Further reviews enter into a grand prize drawing for a book bundle, adding a competitive twist to the community's literary adventure. More information about the events and Winter Reads Program can be found on the Washington County website.
