A woman in the Bay Area led California Highway Patrol (CHP) on a bizarre chain of events after stealing a patrol car in Vallejo, officials said. Vanessa Guerrero, 27, initially arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle out of San Francisco, managed an audacious escape in handcuffs before being on the run again.

Guerrero was spotted patrolling on Interstate 80 by CHP near the Carquinez Bridge. After a brief chase, which the CHP did not pursue, the Vallejo Police Department located and incarcerated the suspect, as reported by The San Francisco Chronicle. But it turned out the cuffs couldn't hold her for long.

The arrestee hijacked the CHP Dodge Charger "while the officer was concluding his investigation", according to the CHP statement shared by the Chronicle. Guerrero then bolted into the police cruiser, only to ditch it minutes later with all gear accounted for. The locations of her initial arrest and where the cop car was found are still under wraps.

KTVU's Henry K. Lee reported on X that the femme fatale was caught trespassing again, and in a twist of events, turned over to CHP for the second time. This comes after leading CHP Solano on an initial chase in a stolen Toyota SUV. The daring sequence of escapades has left authorities scratching their heads as they piece together Guerrero's spree.

The search for Guerrero continues as CHP combines efforts with local law enforcement to track the fugitive. Details about the ongoing manhunt remain scant, but CHP assures that they are committed to apprehending Guerrero and bringing the incident to a close.
