Chicago police have charged an 18-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 39-year-old male during a December incident, authorities announced. Zayin Kelly, from the 1500 block of N. Lawler Ave., faces one count of first-degree murder, one count of murder during a forcible felony, and one count of armed robbery, as per a Chicago Police Department release.
Kelly was apprehended on February 5, 2024, after being identified, as the offender who allegedly took part in the fatal shooting back on December 3, 2023. The incident took place in the 1700 block of N. Lotus Ave. in the city's 25th District, which culminated in the victim's death. Following his arrest, which occurred in the 500 block of N. Michigan Ave., Kelly was charged accordingly.
The teenager will undergo a detention hearing today at the court located at 2600 S. California. Details surrounding the circumstances of the homicide surfaced gradually after the initial investigation. But, subsequent efforts by detectives, aided by community cooperation, led to Kelly's identification and arrest.
