A 9-year-old child was left in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times inside a Beach Park home, local authorities said. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies were dispatched to the 38000 block of North Manor Avenue following a call about the incident Thursday morning.
Upon arrival, deputies found the child with multiple stab wounds. The victim was then rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, per a WGN-TV report.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office stated, "That child was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, and they are listed in critical condition," as obtained by NBC Chicago.
After the attack, the suspect, identified as a 30-year-old man who lived at the same address, fled the scene but was later apprehended at a nearby train station. It has been confirmed that the individual is currently in custody, captured without further incident.
While the relationship between the suspect, and the young victim has not been publicized, officials have assured that there is no ongoing threat to the community. More details are expected to be released as the investigation proceeds.
