Chaos erupted in the streets of Santa Clara yesterday morning when police were called to a domestic disturbance involving a knife-wielding 20-year-old. The Santa Clara Police Department swiftly responded to the scene near the 1000 block of Kiely Blvd after reports that Anthony Hernandez had assaulted a family member and had armed himself with several knives before fleeing his home.
According to a press release by the SCPD, officers located Hernandez south of the reported address. The suspect was still armed, and despite demands to drop the weapons, he refused to comply with officer orders. In an attempt to subdue Hernandez, officers deployed less lethal devices, which ultimately failed to ensure compliance. An officer fired one round, though it did not hit Hernandez.
The standoff ended with Hernandez taken into custody after a reported brief struggle, where he sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Hernandez remains behind bars, with charges pending as the investigation into the incident continues. His motive is still unclear at this time.
The SCPD is actively seeking witnesses and information on the incident. Anyone with evidence would like to contact Detective Hagg at 408-615-4814 or by email at [email protected]. Tips can also be left anonymously on the SCPD's tip line, (408) 615-4TIP (4847), the statement mentioned.
