A San Mateo man is facing serious charges following an alarming incident involving a potentially deadly arsenal found in his car. Steven Olivarado-Santos, 34, was taken into custody after authorities found him Sunday afternoon in possession of an assault rifle while brandished in body armor, according to an X post from the San Mateo County District Attorney's office.

The arrest took place around 1:50 p.m. after a community member alerted the Menlo Park Police Department to the suspect, who was situated at the intersection of O’Brien Drive and Kavanaugh Drive. Steven Dos Santos, as identified by the authorities, supposedly created a significant risk before officers managed to detain him without incident, as per a statement from the Menlo Park Police Department.
This concerning development comes in the wake of another serious accusation against Olivarado-Santos. Just days earlier, he was involved in a confrontation outside a Redwood City fitness center. There, he allegedly pulled a knife on a 64-year-old man and chased him out of the parking lot after threatening his life. "Olivarado-Santos believed the victim was following him," Redwood City Police clarified, adding that the suspect "confronted the victim, pulled a knife, threatened to kill the victim and chased the victim out of the parking lot," according to a Patch report.
Following the parking lot incident, Olivarado-Santos was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats. Meanwhile, for the more recent scenario in Menlo Park, Dos Santos faces charges of unlawful possession or transport of a machine gun and carrying a loaded firearm.
