An investigation has been launched into the death of an inmate at Haralson County Detention Center, as reported by the Haralson County Sheriff's Office. Vinson Dowell, a 54-year-old Atlanta native, experienced severe breathing difficulties on the night of February 11 and was declared dead the following day.
After being alerted to Dowell's condition at approximately 9 p.m., jail staff attempted resuscitation and other emergency procedures. Despite their immediate response and intervention, once Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported Dowell to a medical facility, his life could not be saved, the FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Sheriff Stacy Williams expressed his condolences, saying, "I send my deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Dowell for their loss," and requesting the community to pray for the grieving family. He acknowledged that "medical emergencies happen inside of our facility just like they do on the outside" and commended his team for their swift response.
The late Dowell had been held at the detention facility since January 16, following a probation violation related to a prior incarceration at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
