A Beach Park man has been denied pretrial release after being accused of the heinous act of stabbing his girlfriend's 9-year-old daughter multiple times, with authorities rendering swift justice to detain him until he faces trial. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, 30-year-old Demetrius Fisher faced a Lake County judge who ruled against allowing him his freedom before the court proceedings.

The child's mother had to rushedly come home after being alerted by the school that her daughter had failed to show up that day. FOX 32 Chicago reported that upon arriving, she witnessed Fisher hastily leaving the residence. Inside, the grisly scene of her young daughter was met with multiple stab wounds, necessitating critical medical attention at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

After the attack, Fisher supposedly tried to dissolve into the crowd, initially escaping detection by boarding a PACE bus, only to be later apprehended at the Waukegan Metra Station. The seriousness of the crime was not lost on the law enforcement community, with Sgt. Ari Briskman of the Lake County Sheriff's Office described the incident as "horrible" and stated, "Anytime you have something involving a child, that always hits hardest to everyone, including police officers, paramedics, and firefighters," in a statement obtained by FOX 32 Chicago.

Lake County's legal apparatus has moved quickly to ensure that Fisher, now facing one charge of attempted first-degree murder, would remain securely held behind bars. "Our entire office is thinking about the child who is currently undergoing medical treatment. We will support the child and the family, and we are glad to hear that this defendant will be detained during the pendency of the case," Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a statement to FOX 32 Chicago. Fisher is set to appear in court again on March 12.
