A Bellwood man has been hit with felony charges after police say he knocked off another man on the Near West Side, according to The Chicago Tribune. Benjamin Rivers, 34, allegedly targeted the victim on a CTA train, forcibly relieving him of his property.
Chicago police quickly swooped in and apprehended Rivers not long after the reported incident. Officials confirm that the robbery occurred approximately at 4:30 p.m. and that Rivers was taken into custody shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. He's facing a felony robbery charge and a misdemeanor for battery causing bodily harm, as reported by CBS Chicago.
The 35-year-old victim was on a train in the 400 block of South Damen Avenue when attacked. Responding officers managed to locate and arrest Rivers in the same vicinity, ensuring a swift conclusion to the frightening ordeal for the victim.
Rivers is scheduled to make his appearance in court for a detention hearing come Friday. With one felony and one misdemeanor charge looming over him, he is to face the consequences of an alleged mid-commute confrontation that ended in theft and battery.
