Firefighters battled a blaze early this morning in a Campbell high-rise that forced residents to flee and closed off part of S Winchester Boulevard. The Santa Clara County Fire Department reported to the scene after receiving a call about the fire at approximately 7:59 a.m. at the 1600 block of S Winchester Blvd.
Upon arrival, fire crews found flames consuming a unit on the 10th floor of the 12-story building. It was a frantic start to the day for those in the residence as the fire department worked swiftly to extinguish the flames, managing to contain the damage to the unit where it originated. The Santa Clara County Fire Department reminded the public of the importance of having functioning smoke alarms and sprinkler systems in a post online.
The incident also prompted a response from local police. Officers from the City of Campbell Police Department stepped in to help with evacuations, ensuring residents' safety, and managed the closure of S Winchester Blvd between Rincon and Hamilton Ave in an effort to create a safe perimeter for emergency operations and bystander safety.
Fortunately, injuries were minimal, with only one person transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with officials diving into the origins of the burn that disrupted the morning peace.
