A suspect in a Chicago burglary case was seriously injured after making a daring leap from a third-story window in Hyde Park on Sunday. In a chase that seemed straight out of an action movie, the man was fleeing from police when he decided to jump. According to the WGN-TV, the incident occurred just before half past noon when officers responded to a report of a suspicious person tampering with mailboxes using a mailbox key on the 1200 block of East 54th Street.
The situation quickly escalated when the man was located inside a building vestibule and decided to quickly run upstairs, and then forced his way into a residence before committing to the plunge. It was after his landing that police were able to take him into custody. As per the details shared by the Chicago Sun-Times, the man was hurried to University of Chicago Medical Center due to injuries deemed serious.
While in hospital, the suspect now awaits charges as the investigation continues. The authorities have yet to release information regarding his possible involvement in other recent mail thefts reported in various Chicago neighborhoods like the Loop, Lincoln Park, and the Near North Side. This withholding of ties to larger issues suggests a cautious approach by the police in linking this man to a broader pattern of criminal behavior.
