Business owners are on high alert after a series of strong arm robberies struck the Chicago area, according to a business alert issued by the Chicago Police Department. The notice, directed at shops in the 016th and 017th Districts, warns of multiple incidents involving two male perpetrators who have targeted retail businesses, forcefully taking property and unidentified currency before fleeing on foot.
Chaos ensued as the suspects carried out their sudden crimes at various locations, with the most recent occurrences spanning from North Pulaski Road on February 13th to West Belmont Avenue on the 16th of February. The first suspect, according to the description provided by the Chicago Police, is a Caucasian male between the ages of 20 and 25, standing between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches, with a weight range of 160 to 180 pounds. Encountering them in the dark, their partner in crime—a male African American of the same age bracket, but towering at 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet, tipping the scales between 210 and 230 pounds—accompanied him during the heists.
The CPD has urged the business community to remain vigilant and inform other businesses in the vicinity. A set of safety recommendations has been disseminated, advising against engaging with the offenders and emphasizing the importance of maintaining operational surveillance systems. "Pay special attention to any suspicious individuals loitering in the area," the alert noted, urging businesses to call 911 promptly in the event of any suspicious activity or to report the robbery in progress.
Witnesses to the incidents described scenes of intimidation and desperation, where the assailants made no hesitation to resort to physicality to achieve their means. Caught off guard, workers were left shaken and business owners are counting costs not just in dollars, but in the lingering sense of insecurity that now permeates their establishments. Business owners have been reminded to not reason with these individuals or even stall their demands, with the stern advisory to ensure functional surveillance as the robbers make their escape on foot.
The police have asked anyone with information to come forward, providing a detailed description of the suspects along with any potential vehicle details. They underscored this point, qualifying that such details could prove to be invaluable leads in capturing the suspects before they can strike again. Further information and updates on the ongoing investigation can be found on the Chicago Police Department's official website.
