A Chicago man has been slapped with charges after he allegedly tried his hand at armed robbery, authorities said. Jaylen Murphy, 25, is facing a felony count of attempted robbery with a firearm and a misdemeanor for violating the Conceal Carry Act, according to a statement from the Chicago Police.
The 25-year-old suspect, from the 900 block of W. Wilson Ave., was nabbed by police on Tuesday morning in the 4500 block of N. Sheridan, mere minutes after he allegedly tried to shake down a 48-year-old man for cash. The incident which could have turned deadly, occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier in the same block, police said.
Murphy didn’t manage to escape the long arm of the law for long; responding officers quickly pinpointed and apprehended him. He now awaits his moment before the bench. The suspect has a detention hearing scheduled at the Criminal Courthouse at 2600 S. California, according to police.
Details on the case remain scant, as police have not released any further information about the victim or the circumstances of the attempted heist.
