The Chicago Police Department has charged a man with the attempted murder of a 40-year-old male in an incident that unfolded earlier this month. Herbert Davis, a 39-year-old resident of the 5100 block of W. Van Buren St. in Chicago, faces a felony count of attempted first-degree murder and a count of being an armed habitual criminal, the CPD revealed Tuesday.
Davis was apprehended on January 30 by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and members of the CPD in the 300 block of S. Central Ave., according to a statement released by police. Authorities have identified him as the man who allegedly shot and seriously injured another man on January 8 in the 600 block of S. Francisco Ave. in the city's 11th District.
The detention hearing for Davis is scheduled to take place at a courthouse located at 2600 S. California on February 1. As of now, police have not put forth any additional details concerning the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident or the current condition of the victim.
The community, still grappling with the ripples of violence that too often plague its streets, awaits justice to swiftly be carried out. The charges against Davis mark yet another chapter in the city's efforts to curtail the cycle of gun violence and habitual offenders. Meanwhile, the police have urged anyone with further information to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.
