A Chicago man is facing severe felony charges including attempted murder and aggravated battery after allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old and trying to rob another victim. Allen Erenburg, 44, of the 400 block of N. St. Louis, was apprehended and is now accused of a violent crime spree that left one person seriously injured, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Arrested on Valentine's Day at 11:14 a.m., Erenburg was identified by law enforcement as the assailant who stabbed the young victim in the 2800 block of W. Diversey. Allegedly, mere minutes before the attack, Erenburg also attempted to rob a 28-year-old, aiming to strip away not just belongings, but the sanctity of personal safety. Officers responded swiftly to the scene, subduing and detaining Erenburg before charging him with one felony count each of first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, great bodily harm, and attempted armed robbery with another dangerous weapon among other charges.
Erenburg's detention hearing was scheduled for the day following his arrest, February 15, 2024, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. Updates on the case and the conditions of the victims remain scant, as authorities are keeping details under wraps during the ongoing investigation.
The Chicago police stress that this case is still unfolding and further information will be released to the public as it becomes available.
