
A Chicago man has been slapped with a felony charge for allegedly hitting a pedestrian in a traffic incident last year and fleeing the scene. The suspect, Demetre Lambropoulos, 48, is accused of the hit-and-run that left a 26-year-old man seriously injured, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Lambropoulos, of the 5800 block of W. 63rd St., was cuffed on February 22, 2024, in the 1700 block of S. State St. and charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death the crash occurred on October 8, 2023, but the suspect eluded capture for months before his arrest. The incident took place in the 5600 block of W. 63rd St., located within the city's 8th District.
The detention hearing for the alleged hit-and-run driver is scheduled for February 23, 2024, at 2600 S. California venue. The Chicago Police revealed no further details about the case or the circumstances leading to Lambropoulos's eventual identification and arrest.
While the authorities haven't released any additional information, it's clear that after a significant gap following the incident, law enforcement efforts have culminated in the apprehension of Lambropoulos who now faces serious legal repercussions for the charges brought against him; the victim's current condition following the incident, however, remains undisclosed.
