A grim discovery on Chicago's South Side has left residents of Chatham in distress as a woman was found dead with visible trauma, police reported Sunday.
Authorities were called to the scene at about 9 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Vernon Avenue where the victim, whose identity and age remain undisclosed, was lying unresponsive outside, according to FOX 32 Chicago. She had apparent trauma to her neck area and was pronounced dead at the scene, reported the Chicago Sun-Times, painting a somber picture for the locals as the police have not yet apprehended any suspects in connection with the homicide.
The investigation prompted extensive police activity in the area, with officers canvassing the alley and the front of a building for over eight hours, focusing their efforts on a second-floor apartment but the search so far has yielded no progress toward identifying a perpetrator, no suspects are in custody, this causing unease among Chatham residents.
Adding to the intrigue and potential complexity of the case, neighbor Paula Jackson recounted hearing gunshots the prior night at around 10 p.m., although it remains unconfirmed if these events are linked to the woman's unfortunate demise "I heard gunshots around 10 p.m. Saturday," Jackson told FOX 32 Chicago, with the investigation ongoing, the community is left with more questions than answers as they grieve another life lost to violence on Chicago's streets.
