Chicago businesses are on high alert after a string of armed robberies hit the 17th District, according to an urgent bulletin issued by the Chicago Police Department. The CPD warned local retail store establishments to stay vigilant following multiple incidences where an armed assailant, brandishing a knife, stormed into stores demanding money before fleeing the scene.
The police alert reported two robberies occurring back-to-back on February 4th; the first at a business located on the 4300 block of North Kedzie Ave. at approximately 7:06 p.m., and a second strike happening shortly after, at 7:27 pm, on the 3100 block of West Irving Park Rd. These incidents have heightened concerns among business owners and residents alike.
The perpetrator has been described as a male, likely an American Hispanic, between the ages of 16 and 18, standing 6'01" tall and weighing roughly 220lbs, with a light complexion. Retailers are urged to stay alert, particularly to individuals acting suspiciously or loitering near their establishments.
Authorities are advising businesses to ensure their surveillance systems are operational and to avoid engaging with the assailant. "Do not attempt to reason with or stall the demands of these offenders," the notice emphasized. The CPD is asking that any suspicious activities be reported immediately to 911 with as much detail as possible, including a description of the offender and any vehicles involved. This approach aims at a swift response from law enforcement to apprehend the suspect and prevent further robberies.
