
The Chicago Police Department has issued a Community Alert as they are on the hunt for three individuals tied to a robbery that took place on the CTA Red Line. The incident, which unfolded at 220 W. 47th Street station on January 30th, at approximately 12:05 p.m., saw a victim assaulted and forcibly stripped of his cell phone aboard a train, according to a police statement. Post-robbery, the confrontation escalated onto the platform after both the victim and assailants fled train car #5202.
Detailed descriptions of the trio have been released by authorities in hopes of catching the young men, who are all thought to be between 16 to 18 years old. The first suspect was seen in a burgundy or red-colored hooded sweatshirt, the second clad in a red hooded sweatshirt, navy coat with a tan fur collar, and the third disguised in a red hooded sweatshirt and a blue puffy jacket. They are reported to have continued their escape, running eastbound on 47th Street from the Red Line Station, leaving the victim with minor injuries.
CPD has stressed the importance of public vigilance and has advised that anyone with information on the suspected offenders should contact law enforcement. Citizens are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and to dial 9-11 immediately to report any suspicious activities. They additionally caution against pursuing fleeing suspects, advising instead to relay information to the police.
Photographs of the suspected young men have been circulated by the CPD, and anyone who can identify them or provide additional information that could lead to an arrest is encouraged to come forward. The images feature the suspects fleeing E/B on 47th Street from the Red Line Station, as detailed by the CPD. "The offenders fled E/B on 47th St from the Red Line Station; the victim sustained minor injuries during this incident," the Chicago Police report indicated the direction of their flight.
