Chicago police are on the hunt for a gunman connected to multiple armed robberies across the city's 10th and 11th Districts. In a public appeal issued February 27th, detectives released surveillance footage and called for help in identifying a suspect described as a Black male, between 25 to 35 years old, weighing between 155 to 200 pounds, with a medium-brown complexion.
The individual at large has been placing business employees under terror, entering retail stores, displaying a weapon, and demanding currency and merchandise. His crime spree began with a heist on the 2800 block of W. Roosevelt on Valentine's Day at precisely 1:20 p.m. and continued on February 20th, striking next on the 3600 block of W. 26th Street at 4:49 p.m. The police have asked to remember any distinguishing characteristics of the robber, such as limps or scars if you encounter this individual.
Residents and businesses are on edge as the armed suspect remains free. Police have cautioned the public against resisting during a robbery or chasing a fleeing criminal. Individuals approached by witnesses who observed the incident should obtain the witness' contact details and dial 9-1-1 immediately.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward while emphasizing the importance of safety. Witnesses reaching the scene are advised not to touch any potential evidence and to "remember any unique characteristics of the offender (scars, limp, teeth, etc.)." Without resisting, the promotion of safe practices during such a volatile situation stands at the forefront of the Chicago Police Department's message to the community.
