Two male juveniles, aged 15 and 16, are facing serious charges following an armed robbery that targeted a 14-year-old in Chicago, authorities have announced. According to a press release from the Chicago Police Department, the pair have been slapped with a string of felony counts, including armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
The juvenile suspects were nimbly taken into custody on February 9th, following a swift response by members of the CPD, after they had forcibly stripped property at gunpoint from the young victim. The crime occurred in the 2600 block of S. Hamlin Ave., with the suspects later apprehended in the nearby vicinity of the 2700 blocks of S. Avers Ave and S. Ridgeway Ave.
Details regarding the incident were scarce, but the release indicated that the offenders' detention hearing is to be held at the Juvenile Court, located at 1100 S. Hamilton, on February 10th. The nature of the crime and the youth of the alleged perpetrators have generated considerable attention.
Representatives of the Chicago Police Department have not yet provided additional commentary on the case. The apprehension and subsequent charges, as detailed in the aforementioned press release, mark an ongoing effort by local law enforcement to combat the surge in youth-related crime in Chicago's neighborhoods.
