Three Chicago residents are facing grave charges according to a federal indictment which alleges they conspired in executing a spree of violent carjackings, and are implicated in the cold-blooded murders of two men using vehicles they had stolen earlier that day, confirmed by the Justice Department. The accused, identified as Edson Resendez, Maverick Cela, and Prezila Apreza are alleged to have taken the life of Nabil Mahouar in a brutal attempted carjacking, and later the same day, using another stolen car to kill Eduardo Triano, according to the U.S. District Court in Chicago.
These fresh allegations supplement the previous year's charges against Resendez and Cela, where they stood accused of a series of aggressive carjackings in the suburbs of Morton Grove and Skokie, Illinois, with this new indictment elevating Apreza to co-defendant status and broadening the scope of charges to include additional carjackings in Skokie and Berwyn, Illinois as well as conspiracy and firearm offenses, illustrating the expanded dimension of their criminal undertakings.
As reported, Resendez and Cela, both aged 22 and Apreza, age 23, currently reside behind bars, awaiting arrangements for their arraignment on these superseding charges – arrangements that, as yet, have not been scheduled. This development in their legal saga was shared by Acting United States Attorney Morris Pasqual and Special Agent-in-Charge Robert W. "Wes" Wheeler, Jr. from the Chicago Field Office of the FBI, further noting the integral support provided by various police departments in the apprehension and indictment of these suspects, as per U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Illinois.
