Tragedy struck a Phoenix community as police discovered the body of a man floating in a canal near an upscale golf course earlier this week. The deceased, identified as Gregory Woodard, 28, was found dead at the location near 58th Way and Indian School Road, by the Arizona Country Club. Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky confirmed the morbid discovery after officers responded to a call just after 8:30 a.m., according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
A regular walker along the canal, known only as Gary, expressed his shock to FOX 10 Phoenix, saying "I've lived here almost 30 years," and noted he had seen "cars in the canal before, but never anything like this." The quiet area, juxtaposed against the backdrop of such an unnatural event, left the community searching for answers amidst a veil of sorrow and confusion.
As the Woodard family reels from the unexpected loss, Melanie Woodard, Gregory's mother, reaches for clarity amidst the heart-wrenching absence of her son. "What happened to my son? That's what I want to know," Melanie Woodard stated in an emotional plea reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The family's torment began on February 5, when it became clear that Gregory did not arrive for his job in Scottsdale. Despite an exhaustive search and a missing person's report filed with Scottsdale Police, hope dwindled until the fateful call from Officer Bailey confirmed the worst.
The narrative of Gregory Woodard's life in Arizona was one of aspiration and perseverance, as told by his mother. Moving from Texas to Surprise in August, and later to Scottsdale, Woodard had been working as a security guard at Barstool Scottsdale for the past six months. He was remembered by his family for his loving and easygoing nature. "I'm going to miss my son because I loved my son," Melanie remarked in the shadow of her son's untimely demise, as recounted by FOX 10 Phoenix. With no signs of foul play suspected by Scottsdale Police, the Woodard family awaits a cause of death, clinging to the memories of a life cut tragically short.
