A Davenport, Iowa man has been slapped with a 48-month prison stint for a firearms conviction, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. Charles H. Perdue II, 25, was handed down the sentence on Valentine's Day by Chief United States District Judge Sara L. Darrow, following a guilty plea made last October.
Perdue, who was found with a loaded Glock 23 Gen5 and an extended magazine sporting 27 rounds, has racked up prior felony offenses in both Cook County, Illinois, and Scott County, Iowa. Cops collared him on a May 10th stop in Rock Island when they discovered he had a warrant for a probation violation on another weapons charge, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
In addition to his prison term, Perdue will be under the thumb of supervised release for three years once he exits the big house. The charges could have seen him behind bars for up to 15 years, highlighting the severity of the offense.
Perdue's case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a national initiative that knits together law enforcement at all levels with the communities they serve, aimed at curbing violent crime and gun-spouting rogues. The program was revamped in 2021 to stress trust between the public and police, support organizations that nip violence in the bud, concentrate on strategic enforcement, and keep score of the results.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in collaboration with the Rock Island Police Department, spearheaded the investigation. Elizabeth Aguilar, serving as Assistant United States Attorney, bore the government's flag in prosecution.
