A Decatur teen is behind bars after a fatal altercation at a Snellville party left one 16-year-old dead, authorities report. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) disclosed that 17-year-old Keegan Gates was charged with the murder of Nasir Davis of Lithonia. The incident reportedly occurred during a large gathering on the 1900 block of Scenic Highway on Saturday night.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the trouble started with a fight that escalated quickly, during which Gates allegedly discharged a firearm, striking Davis in the chest. Responding officers arrived to a chaotic scene and gunshots, only to find Davis critically wounded. He was rushed to a local hospital, where, tragically, he was pronounced dead.
The charges mounted against Gates include felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person under 18. As reported by Atlanta News First, he is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail, with an autopsy pending for Davis, to be conducted by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Snellville Police Department, along with the GBI, are continuing their investigation into the deadly shooting. They have publicly appealed, for anyone with more information to come forward.
