Dick's Sporting Goods is setting its sights on Arizona to launch an immersive retail experience with its latest venture, Dick's House of Sport, which is slated to open in 2025. According to Phoenix Business Journal, the company confirmed the news but stayed mum on further details about the project.

The Pennsylvania-based retailer is known for combining its wide-ranging sports merchandise with hands-on activities, and the House of Sport is expected to feature attractions like rock climbing walls, golf simulators, and multi-sport cages catering to a variety of ball sports, all these efforts seeking to redefine the sporting goods shopping experience. Although the company has not confirmed the exact location in metro Phoenix, real estate records obtained by both ABC15 and Phoenix Business Journal indicate an 11-acre plot of land was purchased for the development in Glendale.

In a strategic all-cash acquisition valued at $10.6 million, the sporting goods titan has laid claim to a parcel at the southwest corner of Loop 101 and Maryland Avenue. This transaction was marked last January, and it was a noteworthy sale made by BYPG Holdings LLC, connected to the Van Tuyl Cos., which sparked curiosity among local real estate watchers as Dick's remained tight-lipped about its specific intentions for the spot.

Ideally situated near the State Farm Stadium and other entertainment magnets like Topgolf and the forthcoming Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, Dick's plans to ride the wave of the growing sports and amusement hub in Glendale that already boasts the VAI Resort and the Mattel Adventure Park coming to enrich the cityscape. The blueprint for the company's ambitious rollout includes 75 to 100 House of Sport stores by 2027, each a mammoth space for sporting retail and indoor sports experiences, filling 100,000 square feet a pop, as they said to ABC15.

With five stores already in metro Phoenix and more expansion on the horizon, Dick's Sporting Goods is a familiar presence in Arizona. Last year, they broadened their retail footprint with the opening of Overtime by Dick's Sporting Goods at the Arizona Mills Mall and have a new location unfolding at the Village at Prasada in Surprise. Beyond Arizona, the company is also prepping to expand its House of Sport and Golf Galaxy locations nationally, setting in motion plans to unveil another 10 stores for each brand this year alone, as reported in the Pittsburgh Business Times.
