A wrong-way crash on US 60 in Tempe has led to the detention of one individual earlier today. The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that the collision involved two vehicles near Priest Drive around 7:30 a.m. The detained driver, who allegedly drove the wrong way, has yet to be identified by the authorities, and it remains unclear if there were any injuries as a result of the incident.
Details are still unfolding, and the DPS has not released any information about potential charges the driver may face. The crash prompted a brief closure of the affected portion of the highway as the investigation began to fully try and understand the circumstances of the collision. Eyewitnesses from Arizona's Family reported seeing a Toyota Camry with significant damage to its passenger door at the scene.
The accident caused some disruption to the morning commute, with traffic being diverted while emergency services and law enforcement attended to the scene. The extent of the disruption, as well as the duration of the road closure, was not immediately known. However, the road has since been reopened to traffic.
As the investigation continues, officials are working to quickly determine whether impairment or other factors contributed to the crash. 12News has committed to stay updated on this story and plans to provide additional information once the DPS provides more details surrounding the incident and the condition of those involved. In a statement obtained by 12News, the Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that one person had been detained, but did not elaborate further on their involvement in the crash or the charges they may be facing.
