
A tragic fall led to the death of a 79-year-old man while hiking in Sedona over the weekend. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office reported that the accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Saturday on Pyramid Trail, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. The man, visiting from North Berwick, Maine, fell approximately 30 to 35 feet down an embankment, suffering fatal head injuries.
According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, witnesses said the man appeared to be struggling on the trail. Despite offers for help, he assured onlookers, "I'm fine." Unfortunately, minutes later, he slipped and sustained multiple head injuries during his fall, "the man was pronounced dead on the scene," according to Fox 10 Phoenix. The perilous trail, known for its significant elevation gain of 1,260 to 2,333 feet over a 6.2-mile journey, proved fatal in this instance.
The victim, whose name has not been released pending notification of kin, was accompanied by his wife at the time of the incident. First responders from Sedona Fire Department arrived at the scene where the hiker was pronounced deceased. The man's death was ruled accidental, according to officials.
