According to Local 10, an officer at Broward Health Medical Center was alerted to a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound, who revealed he had accidentally shot himself.

The incident occurred around 9:06 a.m. on Northwest 24th Avenue, police said. The teen's injuries are non-life threatening. Soon after, an armed student was found at Dillard High School. Broward Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement officers were spotted soon after at a Church’s Chicken near the high school, as Sky 10 helicopters captured police activity in the area. Police have not released the identities of either teenager involved, and the age of the student found with the gun remains undisclosed.

Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Ali Adamson urged public participation saying, "He was detained without further incident," and encouraged anyone with information on either event to step forward.
