A brazen daylight bank robbery attempt in Gilroy ended with an arrest days later in Garden Grove, thanks to the efficient work of both city police departments, officials said. On February 3, Gilroy police were called to the scene of an attempted heist at around 2:26 p.m., when a man threatened a teller with a note. Despite the scare, the suspect, wearing a gray jacket, facemask, and glasses fled the scene before grabbing any cash.

The would-be bank robber was picked up on February 6 after a swift investigation involving Gilroy detectives and assistance from Garden Grove cops. Todd M. Haley, 53, was nabbed at his home in Garden Grove, a stark contrast to the suburban safety residents usually enjoy, to face the music for his alleged criminal caper.

Detectives wasted no time securing an arrest warrant from a Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge, and with the help of a statewide alert, they were able to track down Haley. "The Gilroy Police Department extends its appreciation to the Garden Grove Police Department for their assistance and partnership in apprehending this bank robber," the department announced in an official release, as reported.

Not only was Haley linked to the failed Gilroy robbery, but, he's also believed to be connected with another bank robbery in Salinas. Collaboration between the different departments continues as the investigation unfolds. Haley faces a litany of charges and is currently held at the Santa Clara County Jail.

Authorities are reaching out to the public for any additional information on Haley or related incidents. Detective Jason Greathead of the Gilroy Police Department is the point of contact for tips from anyone who can shine further light on the suspect's activities.
