Boaters off the coast of Hollywood, Florida, got a showstopper of an experience as two humpback whales were sighted breaching out of the water within a stone's throw of the shore. The remarkable display happened at a tantalizing proximity - just 40 feet off Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort - and was caught on cellphone cameras, WSVN reported.
The weekend's unexpected performers, a mother humpback whale and her calf, may have been traveling to warmer tropical waters, part of an arduous migration that spans up to a staggering 16,000 miles annually. An onlooker, struck by the size of the leviathans, could be heard exclaiming, “Wow, look at the size of those [expletive] whales, dude,” in one of the video clips that surfaced following the encounter.
WSVN captured the footage showing one of the whales even shooting water out of its blowhole, much to the amazement of the boaters. The duo's impromptu performance provided a rare and intimate glimpse into the lives of these marine giants amidst their lengthy voyage.
It's not every day that beachgoers and seafarers alike are privy to such an enthralling spectacle. According to a report by Bollyinside, it's quite the sight during certain times of year, yet the proximity of the whales on this occasion made for an especially memorable experience. With their migration patterns bringing them closer to human realms, such encounters serve as a serendipitous reminder of the vast and wondrous world just beyond our sandy coasts.
