A cube-shaped croissant oozing chocolate ganache and a sourdough baguette stuffed with breaded chicken, sundried tomato and pesto are now permanent fixtures on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach. Café Marseille, the French bakery from chef Jean Marseille, opened its doors on July 31 at 7776 Okeechobee Boulevard, just west of the Florida Turnpike.

The bakery is the creation of chef Jean Marseille, according to Yahoo, and it leans on imported ingredients to set its baked goods apart — the kitchen uses only French flour and French butter in its sourdough and pastries. That commitment to French staples shows up across the menu, from a chocolate and hazelnut cube croissant with a chocolate ganache center to a fleur cookie topped with Valrhona chocolate ganache.

Café Marseille also offers a savory option built for lunch: the capri chicken sourdough baguette, featuring tender breaded chicken, sundried tomato and pesto baked right into the bread. The Palm Beach Post noted the café's spot on Okeechobee Boulevard rounds out West Palm Beach's growing bakery scene alongside other new openings in the area.

From Market Stand to Storefront

Before it had a storefront, Café Marseille built its name at the West Palm Beach GreenMarket, where it still sells pastries every Saturday. The bakery's permanent café followed that market debut, according to WPTV, which describes it as a French bakery owned by Jean Marseille.

The GreenMarket connection did more than introduce customers to the pastries — it built the business's early following. “A lot of our customer base are customers that we actually met through the GreenMarket,” Marseille said, according to the same station. He added that the market's role in the café's growth “has been tremendous.”

Hours

Café Marseille is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with Mondays off, per the Yahoo report.

Yahoo's roundup of new West Palm Beach bakeries also pointed to The Daily Focaccia as another recent opening, noting that with Café Marseille off Okeechobee Boulevard and The Daily Focaccia downtown, both the east and west sides of the city now have a fresh bakery option. For now, Café Marseille's weekday mornings and weekend brunch crowd have a new reason to detour toward the Turnpike.
