An 18-year-old Imlay City woman died early Tuesday following a rollover crash in St. Clair County, while two young children involved in the incident were rescued by Good Samaritans and are reported to be in stable condition. According to CBS News Detroit, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office received a call around 5:30 a.m. about the accident on westbound I-69 at the Wales Center Road exit ramp.
Upon arrival, deputies found a blue Ford Fusion near the median that had rolled over. Witnesses who had stopped to help the driver were present, with one performing CPR on the young woman. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. As reported by WWJ Newsradio 950, two other individuals safely extracted a 6-month-old child from the vehicle.
Further troubling was the discovery of a 2-year-old child walking near the scene, a revelation that struck a grim note as police found they had been ejected from the vehicle, not properly restrained at the time of the crash. Both children were subsequently taken to a local hospital as a precaution and are in stable condition. The roadway was closed for investigation but was later reopened to traffic at around 8:15 a.m.
The authorities continue to investigate the tragic incident, with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office yet to release further information pending family notifications. Tri-hospital EMS personnel pronounced the 18-year-old woman dead at the scene.
