A fugitive wanted for murder in Kentucky led Miami-Dade police on a dangerous high-speed chase, resulting in multiple car crashes and ending with his capture, authorities said today. After receiving a tip from the FBI about the suspect's location, local detectives initiated the pursuit of a red Camaro, with the situation rapidly escalating into chaos on the roads. The tag on the Camaro revealed a chilling detail—it belonged to the murder victim back in Kentucky, according to CBS News Miami.
Attempting to apprehend the suspect, the law enforcement officials were chasing as the guy barreled into a civilian car at Northwest 103rd Street and 27th Avenue, but he didn't stop there. Spinning out of control near Northwest 119th Street and 27th Avenue because of the stopped morning traffic, his Camaro ended up crashing into another car, flipping over in the process. "The detectives began to pursue the vehicle and at about 103rd Street and NW 27th Avenue, the subject struck a vehicle and continued to move on," Detective Alvaro Zabaleta told CBS News Miami. After being cut out from the wreckage by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the man was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
An innocent bystander, Pearl Thomas, was caught up in the mayhem while driving her grandchildren, aged 11 and 6, to school. The Camaro hit her Hyundai from behind with such force that it pushed her vehicle into another. "I didn't see nothing," she said "It was just all boom, suprise, it was just 'oof', it was scary." Her 11-year-old grandchild was subsequently taken to the hospital. Thomas was unaware at the time that the person who rammed her car was a suspect in a murder case, as CBS News Miami reported.
With the streets of 119th and 127th avenue closed for investigation, the police are continuing their probe into the incident. According to WSVN, officials are expected to release more details in a forthcoming media briefing.
