A routine traffic stop on a Massachusetts highway turned into a significant arrest when a state trooper pulled over a vehicle for excessive window tint and subsequently discovered an unlicensed firearm. The Methuen stop led to the apprehension of 19-year-old Camron Arthur of Lawrence, according to a report released by the Massachusetts State Police News.
Sgt. Edward Troy of Massachusetts State Troop A was on Route 110 duty around 10:15 p.m. on the night of February 9, when he noticed the Infiniti sedan with window tint believed to be below the state's legal transparency threshold. He tailed the vehicle onto Route 495 where the car accelerated to 80 mph in a section with a speed-limit of 55 mph. Following proper pursuit protocol, Troy activated his cruiser's blue lights and conducted an traffic stop.
During the stop, Troy observed Arthur making suspicious movements, as detailed in the MSP News report. Upon approaching the vehicle, Troy noticed an attempt by Arthur to move an object under his seat. Investigation with a flashlight revealed a grip of a gun, later identified as a 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine. Arthur, who has no firearm license, was promptly arrested and further search revealed THC, marijuana products, electronic scales, and packaging paraphernalia often used in narcotic sales.
At the State Police-Andover Barracks, where Arthur was booked, he faced multiple charges including illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a Class C drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute, illegal window tint, and speeding. Arthur was held on $10,000 cash bail and arraignment took place at Lawrence District Court.
