Flames engulfed an auto body shop in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Lemont, a southwest suburb of Chicago, sparking a blaze that required the response of roughly 30 firefighters to bring under control. According to FOX 32 Chicago, the fire at Reed's Automotive Enterprises, located at 926 Main St., was reported around 5 a.m. and seemed to have originated in the front office area.
The Lemont Fire District was quick on the scene and managed to subdue the flames after about half an hour, during this time Main Street had to be shut down between Julia Street and Talcott Avenue according to the same report, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is still a matter of investigation as officials sift through the remnants in search of an answer.
Meanwhile, the incident drew enough attention to see smoke billowing from the structure, an image that punctuated the early morning routine of Lemont residents. CBS Chicago confirmed there were no casualties, and while the majority of the damage was confined to the office area, the full extent of the damage is yet to be quantified.
Further updates on the incident will follow as the investigation progresses and more details come to light.
