A man accused of using his phone to record underneath a woman's dress at Scottsdale Fashion Square last May is now behind bars, according to Scottsdale police. The unsettling incident, which the victim reported occurred while she was ascending an escalator, prompted a swift reaction when she felt an unexpected "breeze behind her dress," as described in a statement obtained by ABC15.
Per the woman's own words, she felt something brush against her, when she swiped her hand under her dress she spotted the man with his phone positioned under her garment, "she saw a man holding his phone below her dress" ABC15 reported. Facing the man at the escalator's summit after the incident, she was met with his denial, he insisted he hadn't taken any footage and for proof, he showed her his phones screen.
The event captured by mall surveillance revealed the suspect's hurried approach toward the escalator following the victim, hastily climbing the steps in a bid to position himself directly behind her. An investigation by the authorities also confirmed that his phone was active and he appeared to shuffle through different applications before the confrontation, as both sources, ABC15 and All About Arizona News, conveyed.
Law enforcement apprehended the suspect, 23-year-old Trey Robert Herman, at his residence last Wednesday. He was promptly transported to the Scottsdale City Jail. According to ABC15, police seized his phone as part of the investigation and are awaiting a search warrant to examine its contents. It is currently unclear if Herman targeted additional victims during his time at the shopping center, the police say.
