Tragedy struck the North Kenwood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side when a man was shot dead, police reported. The 40-year-old victim was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head in the early hours of Tuesday. Responding to a 12:43 a.m. call, officers from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) found the man lying on the ground on the 1100 block of East 47th Street, FOX 32 Chicago reported.
The injured man was quickly taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in an attempt to save his life. Despite the medical team's efforts, he was later pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner's office has not yet released the name of the deceased, as the next of kin may not yet have been notified. Police are still to put someone in custody as detectives from Area One thoroughly investigate to understand the nature of this fatal shooting.
