Authorities have escalated their manhunt for Cedric Denzil Brooks, the 32-year-old suspect charged with the murder that took place in December on Emancipation Avenue. The victim, Jarrick Hoskins, 34, was shot during an early morning altercation and was later pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The Houston Police Department has issued a 2023 booking photo of Brooks, who remains at large despite the charges filed against him in the 482nd State District Court.
In what appears to significantly be a break in the case, after weeks of investigation, officials have identified Brooks as the suspect involved in the verbal dispute turned deadly. According to the City of Houston's news release, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was promptly contacted, and a murder charge was filed on Tuesday, January 30. The suspect was last described as a black male, 30 to 35 years of age.
Investigators, led by HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Detective C. Flora, initially responded to the incident after receiving reports of the shooting and discovered Hoskins in dire condition. Since then, efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect have increased, with police urging the public to come forward with any information that could potentially aid in the capture of Brooks.
While Brooks continues to evade law enforcement, the public's assistance becomes all the more crucial. Anyone with insights on the whereabouts of Cedric Denzil Brooks is strongly encouraged to reach out to the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
