Maple Grove's bravest were in the spotlight at the city's first-ever Public Safety Awards Ceremony. The event, held at City Council chambers on February 5, hailed the heroic acts of local police and fire department personnel, along with one quick-thinking resident. Fourteen police officers received honors for various life-saving actions in 2023, while a civilian was recognized for aiding in an emergency situation.
Officer Jackson Carlson and Sergeant Steve Parker were among those who received the Department Award of Merit for a May 5 event with life-saving stakes. Officer Alexander Daniel was also a recipient of a separate incident just three days later, according to the Maple Grove Police Department.
The ceremony wasn't solely about the police; awards transcended the badge. Al Freng, Jerry Boespflug, and John Peterson, associated with the North Metro Regional Public Safety Training Facility, were recognized for their work on an expansion project. "I am fortunate and grateful to lead an agency with the highest caliber of officers and non-sworn staff serving the wonderful residents of our community!" Chief Werner stated. A citizen, Lee Ingrassia, accepted a Certificate of Appreciation for life-saving assistance to the Police Department, as per the Maple Grove Police Department.
