The tech world buzzed with news Monday as Governor Maura Healey stepped up to the plate and signed an Executive Order for a powerful new Artificial Intelligence Task Force, making a clear-cut statement that Massachusetts is swinging for the fences in the AI game. Calling together a crew of 25 top dogs from business, academia, and government, the task force's mission is to pinpoint ways the Bay State can boost its AI game - a move that could secure Massachusetts' spot at the head of the table in AI dominance.

According to Mass.gov, members are set to advise on how the state is wading into AI implementation and egg on industry leaders to embrace the tech, amping up success all around. "Massachusetts has the opportunity to be a global leader in Applied AI – but it’s going to take us bringing together the brightest minds in tech, business, education, health care, and government. That’s exactly what this task force will do,”

The Governor's gunning for a cool $100 million in the upcoming economic development bill to get a so-called "Applied AI Hub" off the ground. This loot would be a leg-up for AI firms and tech growth, positioning the state as a real contender in sectors like healthcare, life sciences, and education. And the money train may keep rolling with a $25 million green light in the Governor's FutureTech Act, aimed at AI projects within the state branch.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll chimed in, recognizing AI as a game-changer bound to redefine economic plays. There's an alliance in the works with Northeastern University. This partnership, dubbed InnovateMA, is all about testing out AI to make state services more efficient and accessible. Tackling everything from MassHealth policy tools to MassDOT's highway gabble, they're putting AI through the paces to see where it can lend a hand.
