The search for Ana Knezevich, a Fort Lauderdale woman who vanished in Madrid, Spain, is becoming increasingly desperate, with her image now widespread across the city's streets and throughout digital spaces alike. According to Local 10 News, Knezevich, 40, has been missing since February 2, and there's been no trace of her since.
Efforts to find Knezevich are intensifying, friends, and family have cemented her memory into the consciousness of the public with missing person's posters, and her case has been shared over 15 million times over the past week. Joaquin Amills Bonet, a spokesperson for a Spanish volunteer organization aiding the search stated, "We always say that hope is the last thing to lose, therefore, we must always be looking for Ana María in good condition, alive," as reported by NBC News.
Amills Bonet revealed that Knezevich Henao, originally from Colombia, relocated to Spain amidst a troubled separation from her husband David Knezevic. NBC News uncovered that there were no official divorce filings in Florida but learned from Amills Bonet that Knezevich Henao had started divorce proceedings, including reaching out to attorneys in Florida. The couple, who are named in three Florida-based corporations, are believed to have significant financial assets potentially linked to their separation.
David Knezevic's attorney Ken Padowitz, has emphasized his client's cooperation with the authorities, and clarified, that he was in Serbia at the time of Knezevich's disappearance. "David has nothing to do with this," Padowitz told NBC News. Ana's friend, Sanna Rameau, finds the circumstances peculiar, especially considering a text message she received from Ana that did not seem authentic. "The way they were written, it was strange -- that’s not how she writes," Rameau told Local 10 News.
Adding to the mystery, on the night of her disappearance, the lenses of security cameras in her apartment building were found to have been spray-painted black; a troubling act of vandalism that has yet to be connected to the case. With limited details emerging from officials, the investigation continues both in Madrid and Fort Lauderdale to uncover any leads that could bring light to Knezevich's whereabouts. The State Department has acknowledged their involvement, working closely with local authorities, but have not released specifics about the case.
