Mayor Brandon Johnson has tapped Julie Hernandez-Tomlin, a former executive with a private firm and a long history of municipal service, to steer the Department of Fleet and Facility Management (2FM). Hernandez-Tomlin is set to inherit the reins as Commissioner, pending confirmation by Chicago City Council, according to an announcement by the mayor's office.
Having racked up nearly twenty years with the City of Chicago, Hernandez-Tomlin comes equipped with experience from her times serving in the Chicago Department of Water Management and the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation. Boasting a laundry list of leadership roles, her appointment is marked by a history of efficient leadership that Mayor Johnson is keen to capitalize on. The Mayor, seeking to continue polishing Chicago's operations, said, "Julie's proven track record of efficient leadership will ensure that 2FM continues to operate effectively and successfully," as he introduced her to 2FM.
She's no stranger to the private sector either, having held a post as Executive Vice President of Business Affairs at SPAAN Tech Inc., a minority and women-owned business. With what's described as sharp business strategy and staunch union relations, Hernandez-Tomlin brings a toolkit tailored for the management of the city's sprawling assets.
"I have dedicated decades of my life to serving the city of Chicago and its people, and it is a privilege to be able to continue to do so in this new capacity," Hernandez-Tomlin said, ready to take on her new post as reported by the mayor's announcement.
