A 22-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in the driver's seat of his car early Sunday on the 4200 block of South Wentworth Avenue in Fuller Park, according to Chicago police. Investigators say two cars pulled up next to the victim's vehicle at about 5:58 a.m. before people inside opened fire, striking him in the chest and shoulder. He died at the scene.
According to ABC7 Chicago, Chicago Police Department detectives are now conducting a homicide investigation. No suspects have been named, and details about the two vehicles involved in the shooting have not been released.
A Block With a Violent History
This is not the first fatal shooting on that stretch of Wentworth Avenue this year. A 27-year-old man was killed on the same block on July 6, 2026, according to HeyJackass!. Chicago Police Area One Headquarters is at 5101 S. Wentworth Avenue, where detectives handling major South Side homicide cases are stationed, according to prior reporting.

Wentworth Avenue runs directly parallel to the Dan Ryan Expressway and the CTA Red Line corridor, creating a high-traffic vehicular strip along Fuller Park's eastern edge, per Wikipedia's entry on the neighborhood.
One of Illinois's Most Violent Small Neighborhoods
Fuller Park is one of Chicago's smallest community areas, with a 2024 population of 2,345 residents, per Wikipedia. Despite its size, firearm violence has occurred in the neighborhood.
Separately, Fuller Park holds an overall crime index of 177 as of this month, putting its overall crime rate 77% above the national average and 56% above the Chicago citywide average, according to data compiled by DoorProfit. The neighborhood's northern boundary has also been a subject of local coverage.
Legal Stakes If Suspects Are Identified
